Reading comes first, translating second

The same reader the rest of Leumas uses extracts the text, then it is translated. You see both — what was actually on the sign and what it means — because when a translation looks wrong, the useful question is usually whether the reading was right.

Getting a usable read

Fill the frame and keep it roughly straight. Sideways is handled. Glare on a laminated menu is the commonest cause of a bad read; a slight angle away from the light fixes more than a steadier hand does.

Questions

Does it work on handwriting?

Clear printing usually; cursive often not. It tells you when it could not read something rather than inventing words.

Is the photo kept?

No. The frame is read and discarded, and the page names the provider that read it.
